Every music industry depends on new music from new and established artists for its survival. The aim of the PLAYIRISH radio channel is to help increase awareness, exposure and airplay for new Irish music on radio and to accommodate the breadth and depth of output from indigenous artists that now exists. We want to create a distinctive channel which showcases contemporary Irish music across different genres and most importantly, one which music fans like you will listen to.
In a highly competitive world with streaming, YouTube and on-demand music services, radio still holds a really important position – and the support that the Irish radio industry through the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland and RTÉ, has given to get this initiative off the ground is very much appreciated.
The bedrock of our schedule are specially curated playlists of new and popular Irish music from artists as diverse as Saint Sister and Dermot Kennedy to Kojaque and The Gloaming. We will give airplay to emerging acts and well-known Irish artists with great new releases that deserve wider awareness.
PLAYIRISH is a ‘not for profit’ initiative under the guidance of IASCA (the Irish Association of Songwriters, Composers and Authors). We may not get everything right from the start but please bear with our small team while we try to bring you great NEW – IRISH – MUSIC for free.
PLAYIRISH is a small station with big ambitions and we need you to play a part in helping us succeed. Here’s how you can help:
1. Download the Irish RadioPlayer app and set PLAYIRISH as one of your favourite stations
2. Please follow us on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook….and preferably on all 3!
3. Tune in and if you like what you hear, tell your friends.
